Miccichè defends Muti's concert: "International event, an opportunity not to be wasted"
AGRIGENTO – Regarding the controversy raised over the concert by Maestro Riccardo Muti in the Valley of the Temples , the mayor of Agrigento Francesco Miccichè intervenes publicly to clarify the administration's position and reiterate the value of the initiative.
“This is one of the most important events of the year of Agrigento Italian Capital of Culture,” says Miccichè. The concert, scheduled in one of the symbolic places of world heritage, is according to the mayor an extraordinary opportunity to enhance the cultural and landscape value of the site.
“From the Valley of the Temples an intense combination of classical notes and ancient history will emerge, fascinating and attracting millions of people. This is why an event of this kind is a precious opportunity not to be wasted,” underlines the mayor, highlighting the potential international relaunch of Agrigento's image.
Miccichè rejects the criticism and calls for overcoming the divisive tone: "I hope that, regardless of the controversy, all this will be understood, supported and not opposed with prejudices or political ends. If Agrigento wins, Sicily wins" .
Clear words, which come at a delicate but central moment for the cultural and touristic future of the city. The mayor's appeal is addressed to institutions, citizens and public opinion: to team up to make the most of 2025 , a year that Agrigento cannot afford to waste.
